Panic spread across the Santoshpur Manna Para area of Jagatballavpur in Howrah after the decomposed body of a woman who had been missing for the past five days was recovered from inside a locked house. The deceased has been identified as Durga Mondal, whose disappearance had earlier raised concern among local residents.
According to local residents, suspicion arose when no movement or sound was heard from the house for several days. Concerned neighbours alerted the police, following which personnel from Jagatballavpur Police Station reached the spot. Finding the house locked from outside, police broke open the lock to enter the premises and discovered the decomposed body inside the house.
Police said the body was found in a naked condition and bore multiple injury marks. A sickle had also been forced into the woman’s mouth. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and Jagatballavpur Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
